Catalysts of the preparation and industrial importance of catalysis and catalyst deactivation

Author(s):

Sumayyah MA Othman

Abstract:

A catalyst is a substance which increases the rate at which a chemical reaction approaches equilibrium without becoming itself permanently involved, Types of Catalysis (homogeneously catalyzed and Heterogeneous catalysis), Industrial Importance of Catalysis: Catalysts are the workhorses of chemical transformations in the industry. Classification of Catalysts :( Unsupported (Bulk) Catalysts, Supported Catalysts).General Methods of Preparation for Supported Catalyst Systems: (Impregnation, Adsorption from Solution, Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD), Co-precipitation, Deposition, Regenerability). Catalyst design parameters: (Activity, Stability, Selectivity). Catalyst deactivation: deactivation leads to a shortened catalyst lifetime, and the replacement of an aged catalyst to a new one is determined by the industrial processes for which the catalyst is used.
