Diabetes, often known as hyperglycemia, is a long-term metabolic illness marked by elevated blood sugar levels. It happens when the body's cells are unable to react appropriately to the insulin released, indicating diminished tissue sensitivity to insulin, or when the pancreas secretes insufficient or no insulin (insulin is the hormone that controls blood glucose levels). Protein, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism are all impacted by an insulin shortage. The present study aimed to measure the activity of aldose reductase enzyme in diabetic patients in addition to other variables adiponectin, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides and C-reactive protein in the blood serum of type 2 diabetic patients compared to healthy controls. This study was conducted (60) samples of patients and (30) samples of healthy controls. The results showed a significant increase (p<0.05) in the level of aldose reductase enzyme, adiponectin and triglycerides in diabetic patients compared to healthy controls, a significant increase (p<0.01) in the level of glycated hemoglobin in diabetic patients compared to healthy controls.
