Abstract:

The novel Schiff base ligand has been produced in methanol medium by combining 2-hydroxy-2-methypropiophenone and sulphapyridine. Complex of this Schiff base ligand with Cu (II) ion has been prepared with ligand metal salt ratio of 2:1. Spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis have been used to clarify the structures of the produced compounds. The electrochemical behavior of the synthesized ligand, designated HMPSP, was investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) in Britton-Robinson (BR) buffer and aqueous phosphate buffer at GCE. CV investigations reveal that HMPSP ligand exhibits dielectric, diffusion control, irreversible reduction peak and the product of this reduction are secondary amines. Whereas the Cu (II)/Cu (I) redox systems are quasi-reversible necessitate a monoelectron transfer. The various kinetic parameters were also computed, including the diffusion coefficient (D01/2), charge-transfer coefficient (αn), and rate constant (K0f,h). The synthesized Schiff base ligand and its metal complex have been shown to be biologically effective against the fungi (Aspergillus niger & Penicillum chrysogenum) as well as the bacteria (Bacillus subtilis & Escherichia coli). In comparison to the standard, the microbiological result shows moderate activity.
